Toasts

Some folks prefer to write their own toasts detailing past memories with the newlyweds. But, for those who find they are at a loss for words, we offer the following:

May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door.

May your life be filled with roses and your children have pug noses.
May your garden overgrow and your table overflow.
May your every need be met and may you never know regret.
May you grow to be quite old with every story you know told.
And may you happy ever be – that is the wish to you from me.

May you both live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.

May your neighbors like and respect you, and troubles tend to neglect you;
While the angels strive to protect you, and heaven long to accept you;
May the country hills caress you, and the lakes and rivers bless you;
May the luck of life enfold you, while God’s blessings keep and hold you.

May the poorest day of your future be no worse than the richest day of your past.

May there always be work for your hands to do, and your purse always hold a coin or two;
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane, and a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you, and may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings, slow to make enemies, and quick to make friends.

May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends gathered below it never fall out.

May there be a generation of children on the children of your children.

May all life’s ups and downs come only in your bedroom.

May you have no frost on your spuds, and no worms on your cabbage;
May your goat give plenty of milk, and if you inherit a donkey, may she be in foal.

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

May your love see you through all dark days, like a sunbeam lighting your path.
